“Dude, you look awful. What time did you go to bed last night?”
“Around 2 AM.” I replied.
That was a lie.
It was 3AM.
I wasn’t even working.
I was thinking.
More like asking myself the same question over and over.
I tried to do work, but I just couldn’t shake it. Just that same question….
? “Is it okay to sell things right now?” ?
Here’s what has been happening…
You see, I still haven’t figured out the right amount of news to read to stay an informed citizen, but not so much that I spend my entire day trying to not to rage cry.
Last night, I read article after article, and tweet after tweet, about the future of our world until I thoroughly buried myself in an overwhelming pile of despair, grief, and anxiety.
You might be in that same spot, reading this right now. Overwhelmed and wondering if/when you should sell something ever again.
And that’s totally okay. Feel your feelings.
BUT I also want to share with you two secrets that helped me go to sleep last night (hopefully without you also staying up all night to figure them out)…
1. You don’t need to shut down your business and choose to fail just because people (maybe including you) are hurting.
2. Martyring your business isn’t supporting anybody, especially you and your family.
Every single person reading this should have a message (maybe in the form of a product, service, etc.) that they feel the world NEEDS.
And since you have a message that the world needs to hear, there is a massive opportunity right now.
My buddy Pete McPherson reminded me that “people who have value to add, now more than ever, will get found.”
Any creator who has been at this long enough… THIS is the moment you’ve been waiting for.
A time when the world NEEDS your work more than ever.
People are listening more than ever. People are searching for answers more than ever.
Put it out there.
Charge for it.
Support creators and those you care about. Which means you also have to give people the chance to work with you and support YOU.
So please don’t feel bad about selling anything right now. Consider this email you being knighted back into marketing.
